Diabetes in NZ The Growing Crisis and How We Can Respond
Rhema Breakfast spoke with Heather Verry, Chief Executive of Diabetes New Zealand, about Diabetes Action Month and the concerning statistics surrounding diabetes in New Zealand. Currently, around 352,000 people are diagnosed with diabetes, with an estimated million more potentially living with pre-diabetes.
Heather highlighted the importance of recognising symptoms such as excessive thirst, frequent urination, and fatigue, particularly in children. She emphasised the need for increased awareness and resources tailored for younger individuals, as well as the urgency of early diagnosis to manage and mitigate complications associated with diabetes.
